This is COACH BOB PERKINS eighth year as the Sailors' HEAD FOOTBALL COACH.
He has compiled a record of 40-34 with five playoff appearances in seven years, including District Championships in 2004 and 2006. In 2004 the Sailors reached the Regional Finals in the
Class 5A playoffs. Prior to being named Head Coach, Perkins was an Assistant Coach at SHS from 1996-2000. Previous Football coaching experience includes stints at Gainesville Buchholz, Venice High, Ocala Vanguard
and Tavernier Coral Shores High. This will be Coach Perkins fourteenth year as a member of the Sailor Faculty. Coach Perkins is currently teaching in the
Anchor Academy program (Students-At-Risk). Perkins graduated from
Venice High School in 1984 and from the University of Florida with a
Bachelors Degree in Exercise and Sports Sciences.

COACH CLYDE METCALF enters his 29th year as the HEAD BASEBALL COACH and 16th
year as the school Athletic Director. He has compiled a career record of 708
wins and 168 losses. Metcalf’s teams
have advanced to the Final Four 10 times winning 6 state titles and finishing
runner-up 3 times. The Sailors have
twice been named as National Champions and were the USA Team of the Decade for
the 1990’s. Clyde has received numerous
coaching awards, among which he was
named National Coach of the Year twice and recipient of the Florida Athletic
Coaches Association Lifetime Membership Award.
Metcalf has been a professional instructor at SHS for 29 of his 35
years, currently teaching Personal Fitness.
He will be inducted into the Florida Athletic Coaches Association Hall
of Fame in December of this year.

JOHN STEVENSON earned his Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of South Florida and is currently teaching Chemistry at SHS. Coach lettered all 4 years at Sarasota High from 1995-1999. This is Coach Stevenson's second year as the Sailor HEAD BOYS GOLF COACH.

CASEY GARRETT, HEAD GIRLS GOLF COACH. This
is Garrett's second year as Head Coach of the Girls Golf Team. She is in her 3rd year as Assistant Soccer and Softball Coach. Casey is a graduate of University of South Florida and is a Math Teacher at the Sarasota Military Academy.

DON BICKEL, HEAD GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY COACH. Bickel
has coached Cross Country for ten years at SHS. Bickel is a Personal Trainer and Massage Therapist. He has been married to Shana for 7 years and has two children.

KYLE MENDENHALL, is beginning his sixth season as HEAD BOYS CROSS COUNTRY COACH. He
was an elite and professional cyclist until 1998, including three
seasons in Italy. Endurance sports are a passion for him and he looks forward to working with students on all ability levels. Coach Mendenhall is a Math Teacher at SHS.

SHERWOOD WATTS, HEAD SWIM COACH. Sherwood
graduated from SHS in 1972 and has coached the Sailors since 1996.
During his tenure, the Sailors have won two State Titles(men) in 2001
& 2002, three District Titles(women), and one State record in the
women's 100 Breast by Annie Babicz 1:01.98 (2001). Coach Watts was
awarded the Dairy Farmer 3A Coach of the Year in 2001 & 2002. He
also has coached the nationally renowned Sarasota YMCA Sharks Swim Team for the past 25
years. The Sharks have won the Florida State Championship 7 times and
the Florida YMCA Championships for 18 years. He has been awarded
Florida Age Group Coach of the Year six times.

 | VINCENT CORACI, HEAD GIRLS SOCCER COACH
took the Lady Sailors to the state finals in 2000-2001 and state
semi-finals in 2001-2002 while winning three District Titles and
compiling a 52-5-2 record in that time span. Coraci was an assistant
women's soccer coach at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga from
2003-2005.Coraci returned to coaching at SHS in 2005. Vince has been a
resident of Sarasota since 1979, and is a 1985 Sailor graduate.

MICKEY MASSEY, HEAD BOYS SOCCER COACH

 | This is COACH EDWARD SERA'S third year as HEAD GIRLS TRACK COACH. Coach Sera graduated from USF with a BA in Education (Social Sciences) and his Master's Degree in Educational Leadership in 2000(USF). Prior to joining the Sailor staff three years ago, Coach Sera taught for six years at the middle school level. He is currently teaching Social Studies in the Anchor Academy(At-Risk program). Coach Sera is no stranger in the Athletic Department as he also is an Assistant Girl's Basketball Coach. Coach has been married for sixteen years and has two daughters who are in third and fourth grade.

DAVE ONESS, begins his fourth year as the HEAD BOYS BASKETBALL COACH
at
Sarasota High and twenty-third year of coaching overall. He brings with him a variety of coaching
experiences at every level, including high school, college, and professional
basketball. Prior to coming to SHS,
Coach Oness spent four seasons as the Head Coach at DeSoto County High, where
he led the Bulldogs to one district championship and three appearances in the
region tournament. David and his wife Kathy are the parents of two sons Travis
(29) and Rhett (28) and live in Nokomis.
Coach Oness teaches Social Studies at SHS.

| | ROB JUTRAS, HEAD GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH is beginning his first season at SHS. Jutras holds a B.A. in Computer Science from Franklin University, Columbus, Ohio. Founder of the Sarasota Sting Basketball Program, he has coached youth hoops for the past 13 years and is looking forward to coaching at the next level. He is currently a realtor and has 3 basketball playing teenagers at home - Kyle, Kristin and Kelly. |

JACKIE BROWN, HEAD GIRLS WEIGHTLIFTING COACH enters her seventh year with the Lady Sailors. Brown earned her Bachelor's Degree in Molecular Biology from the University of West
Florida and a Master's in Secondary Science Education from the University of
South Florida. She is in her eighth year teaching in Sarasota County, seventh
year at Sarasota High. Currently she is an instructor in the Anchor Academy
(Drop-out Prevention program)and in the Physical Education Department.
Brown is a Certified Personal Trainer and Certified Strength and Conditioning
Coach through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Jackie is
also in her sixth year working with our baseball and basketball teams as their
strength and conditioning coach.

 | COACH WILLIAM SEIDER, HEAD BOYS TENNIS
is a long time resident of the Sarasota area. He is a graduate of the
SHS class of 1972, and a letterman for the Sailor tennis team (as were
three of his children). Seider attended college at the University of
Florida, earning a business degree before attending Law School at UF,
obtaining his JD in 1979. In his "day job" he is a real estate attorney
with the local law firm of Williams Parker. The Boys Tennis Team won the District and Regional Championships in 2008 and 2009, advancing to the State Championships both years.This is Seider's fifth year
coaching the boys tennis team.

COACH SCOTT SWIRLES, HEAD BOYS TRACK
This is
Coach Swirles 8th year coaching track at SHS and the 4th year as the head coach. Coach Swirles was previously
the girls head coach and now begins his 2nd year as the boys head
coach. Coach Swirles also coaches
varsity football at Sarasota High. Coach Swirles holds a B.S. and M.A. in
education and is currently teaching Social Studies at SHS. Coach Swirles has 3 children, Rhiannon, Kendall and Brody.

RON COLANGELO, HEAD BOYS WEIGHTLIFTING COACH, has been a
weightlifting coach for the past 20 years. Ron coached the Venice Indians for
13 years. Many of those years Ron would qualify an average of 10 to 13 boys
each year in April to compete at the State Finals. Ron came to Sarasota
High 6 years ago and in 4 short years brought his team of 8 qualifiers to the
State Finals in 2008. Sarasota High's first state championship came from that
2008 team. The previous year Ron had a state record breaker in the clean/jerk
and the very next year a breaker in the bench press. Ron has been married for 34
years to his wife Gerry and has two daughters Allyson and Kelly. After taking
3rd. place in 2009 Ron and his team would like to return to the state platform
for a state championship this year. Team motto: I shall persist
until I succeed. |

AMANDA MAVRIKAS, HEAD CHEERLEADING COACH is
a 1999 SHS graduate, a three year Varsity Cheerleader and a member of
the Competition Squad. Coach Mav was an assistant coach at SHS for four
years, the JV coach at Cardinal Mooney, and Head Varsity Coach at
Out-of-Door Academy for the 2004-05 school year. Mav is in her 4th year as Head Varisty Coach and we are happy to have
her back as she is dedicated to her sport and the girls participating.
Amanda is married to her high school sweetheart, Nick. They have
three children, Crystal, Hailey and Landen.
