QUICK FACTS ABOUT THE eMAX PROJECT
What are we doing?
Implementing Maximo version 6.0:
Setting up the system to report on asset and work management at the enterprise level.
Moving away from the business unit standalone systems that were established independently of one another, giving us a clear picture of what we own, what resources are needed, when those resources are needed, or what skills the resources need to have.
Bringing all work activity and assets (tagged and non-tagged) into one central system.
Why are we doing it?
The biggest benefit of the new version is the ability to report on operations and assets enterprise-wide, giving our customers the answers they need, when they need them. It ’s truly an enterprise-wide solution that will help you schedule and plan your work days, increase efficiency and document unplanned work and emergencies. As a high performance organization, we are always striving to provide services faster, better and cheaper.
How long will THE PROJECT take?
The first phase of the project has an aggressive one-year timeline. The system infrastructure is now in place and configuration of the new version of Maximo has begun. Configuration workshops are in progress to give all project team members a clear understanding of how the Maximo system works. Once equipped with that knowledge, they will work with the eMax team to develop and test Maximo v6.0.
Future initiatives include rollout of the software to additional business units, enhanced workflow, more detailed GIS mapping, field technology, and integration with additional software systems already in place.
WHAT ARE THE benefits?
Front-line workers
Scheduling and planning work will help you prioritize the work that must be performed on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, making your workday less hectic and disjointed.
Increased efficiencies will show your supervisors and managers the value you add to the organization. And, progressing into a preventive maintenance program will decrease unplanned work requests.
There are always emergencies and "need it now" jobs that happen. By recording these unplanned jobs and what types of work you had to tackle in a day, you can document just how many interruptions you face.
Managers and supervisors
Maximo v6.0 will provide a tool for better coordination of workers, materials and assets, leading to operational cost savings.
It will provide a clear picture of what assets we own, how much it costs to maintain them, and how the workload demand changes in order to maintain those assets, depending on where they are in the asset lifecycle.
Reports with accurate and complete data provide tools for planning staffing levels, defining budget needs and organizing when and how work is performed.
PROJECT WORKSHOPS
SYSTEM STANDARDS workshops – July 2006 through Nov 2006
Over the past few months, project champions attended training workshops to get an overview of the new version of Maximo (known as Maximo v6.0 or MXES-Maximo Enterprise Suite). They gained a better understanding of how an enterprise-wide system compared that to the current standalone systems .
The champions then participated in ad-hoc team meetings to provide recommendations for default system options, data elements (fields) in Maximo, and enterprise processes. Each ad-hoc team was comprised of one or more representatives from each affected business unit. The ad-hoc teams were assigned one or more topics; they discussed system, field and process functionality, and did the analysis on how the options would affect the finished product (the enterprise-wide system). After many hours spent in workshops and meetings, the project champions provided recommendations back to the entire team.
From this work effort, the eMax Team developed the ‘Enterprise Configuration Standards for Maximo v6.0’. This is the first step in developing the Maximo v6.0 system.
business process & asset workshops – Nov 2006 through Jan 2007
The project champions are now working with the eMax Core Team and EMA Consultants to define and document the critical activities that are performed within their business units and the critical assets that are necessary to provide those services. The eMax Team is currently working with the Core Service Coordinators and Process and Quality Innovations to align Maximo reporting structure with the business process activities defined in GovMa x.
Processes will be analyzed for efficiencies; the main goal for streamlining processes is to develop Standard Operating Procedures. There is a great deal of work to be done in the next few weeks. |
