7th Annual Hurricane and Flood Preparedness Expo
This year's expo will attract residents from the Gulf Coast who are looking for information on how to prepare their business, their homes, properties and finalize their plans for hurricanes, severe tropical storms and/or flooding events that may threaten Sarasota County.
Planning should include flood protection. Homeowners insurance does not cover flood damage. Flood insurance takes 30 days to activate. Waiting until a storm is announced is too late to apply for coverage. Did you know that homeowners are four times more likely to have a flood than a fire during the lifetime of a mortgage?
Sarasota County residents can experience flooding from two sources. Coastal flooding is associated with storm surge, tropical storms and hurricanes. Riverine flooding is caused from rainfall. Ten inches of rainfall in 24 hours is equivalent to a 100-year storm in Sarasota County.
Flood Preparedness Week is March 5-11, 2007.
